My Tantric Life
in Bali
So what does it really mean to live a “tantric lifestyle?” Before I offer my thoughts, I’d like to invite all my readers to consider this question, and perhaps even write up your answer and send it to newsletters@margotanand.com.
I’ve had the distinct pleasure of living in Bali for a number of months this year. And I must say, I’ve discovered a culture and environment that, for me, truly embodies the tantric way of life. Here, the quality of life is relaxed and graceful. There’s plenty of time and freedom to hang out with friends… people that are evolved, heartful, intelligent, and creative. It’s refreshing that I don’t have to rush about all day, everyday, to take care of that seemingly endless list of “to do’s” I have back in the US.
In Bali, people who work in service jobs (e.g., drivers, cooks, cleaners, etc.), don’t consider themselves underpaid, they are not ‘illegal immigrants”… nor do they hate their jobs or their bosses. These people are genuinely happy in their work, and they also have a life and family outside of work. What’s more, the relationship between worker and client/boss is generally a mutual, satisfying collaboration.
Bali is a culture where you are surrounded by art, ceremonies, temples, celebrations, friendship, smiles, affordable prices, creative friends, and parties and dances that last all night. It’s a sex positive culture that tolerates, even welcomes, various sexual combinations – gay or straight. Bali supports a culture of artisans and artists that are happy and available to co-create with you, or help you manifest your own creation.
Bali is a place where the social structure is not based on self-centered individualism or “me-first” attitudes. Instead, Bali functions around communities and villages in which people, young and old, take care of one another. And if you live in or near a village, you are an active participant in the well being of all its people.
Here, much importance is given to respecting nature and creating beauty and harmony… and honoring the nature spirits to facilitate a harmonious co-habitation between humans, animals, the earth, and the cycles of nature.
The Balinese honor and celebrate the power and practice of ceremonial magic. They establish harmony with the gods and the goddesses of the land. They have fun wearing beautiful costumes.
I dream of a world of infinite possibilities, and Bali offers the support I desire – inside and outside – to manifest them.
So, for me, living the tantric lifestyle means, more and more, living in Bali! :-)
Much love and many blessings,
Margot
